Event Horizon Empire

I was asked to make a possible cover for the EHT's Nature Astronomy publication revealing the first EHT images of Cen A. See our paper here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-021-01417-w

Here, I reimagined the EHT logo in an overly literal and dramatic sense. What would it look like if humanity really opened up the Earth to form the base of a massive telescope?

Final render.

I messed around with the render for a bit after producing the final but was less happy with this result, so I went with the earlier iteration as the final. The law of diminishing returns rears its ugly head!
