Z3024: The Temple on the Tree Stump

Just finished my latest artwork in Blender. I love making stuff that meshes nature and architecture, and the fairy aesthetic, little imaginary worlds. The artwork features a little temple built on top of a tree stump, nestled in a bed of bright pink and purple flowers. You can get up from the forest floor to the temple via many winding spiral staircases, which feature sculptures and imagery from top to bottom. Mist winds it way through the whole scene. I wanted it to feel small and big at the same time.

Here’s the final render.

Normally, I light with an HDRI and go from there but I couldn’t get any HDRI to make the lighting look how I wanted. So I lit with area lights and used black planes with no material to cast shadows how I wanted, absorb light, and add contrast.

The floating rocks are a motif in some of my artworks, and I thought they worked well in this one.

I spent a lot of time on the finer details and making sure everything played nice together.
